Description
Teaching 21st-century skills doesn't have to be an extra task. What if your students could learn content and develop 21st century skills at the same time without you having to overthink it or over plan?
This resource is a bundle of 21st century skills learning activity tool kits that organically incorporate 21st-century skill-building opportunities into each experience.
This bundle includes 21st century skill learning activity types such as:
- Self-directed project-based learning - project-based learning is sustained inquiry that includes deep, meaningful, and relevant learning experiences. This PBL tool kit sets students up to design and lead their own project-based learning experiences that are real-world and highly collaborative. Skills: collaboration, information literacy, communication, etc.
- Scientific experimental inquiry - this tool kit walks students through the process of designing and conducting their own inquiry experiments. They make observations, ask their own questions, design an experiment to test the questions, and conduct the experiments. Skills: problem-solving, analysis, interpretation, critical thinking, etc.
- Problem-based learning - this problem-based learning tool kit offers students the opportunity to examine a community issue (of their choice or one assigned to them), explore a variety of solutions from many perspectives, and develop a hypothetical comprehensive solutions plan. Skills: problem-solving, critical thinking, listening, cooperation, local and global awareness, etc.
- Design thinking maker projects - design thinking is a process by which students create solutions to complex problems. In this case, this tool kit guides students through the process of creating a product that solves a problem of their choice or one assigned to them. Skills: creativity, problem-solving, curiosity, innovation, etc.
- Community action projects - community action projects are project-based in nature with a service-learning twist. Students explore a real-world problem, develop an action plan, and take direct action. That could be in the form of volunteering, fundraising, raising awareness, etc. Skills: information literacy, research, collaboration, global awareness, problem-solving, critical thinking, etc.
- Service-Learning Tool Kit - This resource offers the guiding materials to support students independently through self-directed service-learning experiences. Students use the templates to brainstorm community needs, develop service plans to meet those community needs, and serve.
- And a 21st-century skills portfolio where students can document and showcase the competencies acquired from each 21st-century skills learning activity.
Each activity tool kit includes:
- Guiding templates
- Brainstorming activities
- Activity planning templates
- Activity steps checklist
- Rubric
