What educators are saying

Great way to track reading! My students loved the challenge and it was a very visual reinforcing activity.
Not only did this make an adorable bulletin board to keep track of student reading, but my students are so motivated to read! Some of them, after only a couple of weeks of school, have already marked off a few books. Thank you!

Description

40 Book Challenge Dot Tracker Materials

THIS RESOURCE IS A FULLY EDITABLE POWERPOINT FILE.
First, read “The Book Whisperer” by Donalyn Miller.
•If you need a quick refresher, read this article by her The 40 Book Challenge Revisited.
•These materials are not designed by Ms. Miller or endorsed by her. They are simply the materials that I designed to use in my classroom to implement her brilliant strategies. I believe in helping students become life-long readers and in helping them find books that result in meaningful reading experiences.
•You will see that I don’t include any reading logs in the traditional sense. I don’t believe in them, instead opting to use a standard composition notebook for reading responses.
•I have included wristbands and award certificates. These are completely editable. I encourage you to change the number on the certificate and the wording to celebrate each child and their accomplishments as a reader. Certificates are not a component of the book, but I enjoy having a way to facilitate a private conversation with students about their progress.
•My favorite part about the dot tracker is the place for a sticky note. This component helps me encourage students to be talking to each other about what they are reading and make book recommendations. I use a book recommendation form and a seasonal display.
•If you like the fonts I use, they are all free for personal use. HelloLikeABoss, HelloBigDeal, HelloEster, KG Geronimo Blocks. You can find KG Fonts and Hello Fonts by searching them on TpT.
•I like to place an X in sharpie over the dots as students complete a book. You can also use the small stickers pictured in the cover.

You get:
Dot Tracker
Award Certificates
Wristbands
Bookmarks
Parent Letter
Student Reading Survey
