What educators are saying

Love this! So fun to work with my children as they help their sister plan ahead for appropriate responses.

Description

This pack contains 501 Social Skills-themed open-ended discussion prompts to use as discussion starters in speech therapy, counseling, social skills group, ABA therapy, and similar settings. These prompts come in both a flash card and a list format.

I took many of the activities directly from my Weekly Social Skills Homework Packets and added on 150 additional prompts as well as colorful pictures. To make it more user-friendly, I also organized the activities into 10 different categories:

-Emotions & Anger Management (58 prompts)
- Conversation Skills (58 prompts)
-Social Scenarios & Problem Solving (123 prompts)
- Health & Safety (42 prompts)
- Figurative Language (47 prompts)
- Prosody & Body Language (36 prompts)
- Perspective-taking (27 prompts)
- Manners (36 prompts)
- Cause & Effect / Predicting (51 prompts)
- Social Vocabulary (33 prompts)

All cards are color-coded by category. The included prompts encompass and address a wide variety of skills including social problem solving, conversation skills / pragmatics (topic maintenance, turn-taking, eye contact, etc.), critical thinking skills, cooperative play skills, idiomatic expressions, feelings / emotions / anger management, manners / etiquette, social inferencing, perspective taking, positive character traits, predicting outcomes, flexible thinking, conflict resolution, etc.

Since these are open-ended questions, the only category that contains an answer key is Figurative Language.

These prompts also lend themselves to a quick and easy activity if you have not had time to plan an in-depth lesson – just pull out these cards and go!

The difficulty level of these activities is such that students should have basic comprehension skills (those students using Michelle Garcia Winner materials may be good candidates!). Depending on the students’ language level, these would be appropriate from Kindergarten to high school, although younger children may need their helper to facilitate and scaffold.

***Please look at the preview to get a general notion of the difficulty level.***

I have also posted the Social Vocabulary cards as a Freebie (the reason I chose this category was because it does not contain any pictures and won't infringe on me clipart vendor's TOU).
