What educators are saying

I am using these in centers currently with fractions, and my students cannot get enough! They love the games.
These centers are always perfect for me to use throughout teaching all fraction skills to my 5th graders. They're consistent so students do not need guidance or monitoring after playing multiple times.

About the Printable 5th Grade Fraction Math Centers

*The fraction math centers are varied to allow you and your students variety when practicing rigorous 5th grade fraction skills.

*Many of the math centers included choice options for the students (choosing the fractions to complete equations, for example) to increase engagement.

*There are a variety of computation only fraction math centers and word problem centers.

*Each center is available in black and white only, to save ink. I printed these centers in colored card stock to add some color.

*Each center includes a teacher notes page with a picture of the center in action, a student directions page, the center cards or pieces, recording sheets, and answer key when applicable. The nature of some of the centers don’t allow for answer keys.

*The only manipulatives needed for this center are dice and a paperclip to create a spinner.

*Check out the preview to see the table of contents and all of the fraction centers included in this resource.

About the Digital 5th Grade Math Centers

•The digital math centers are available for use with Google Slides. Click here for a step-by-step guide for assigning Google Slides in Google Classroom.

•Each digital math center includes a direction page with a picture of the center.

•The digital fraction math centers vary in complexity. I highly recommend that you use the digital access table of contents to carefully preview all the options available and choose the ones that best fit the needs of your students.

•Digital recording sheets are not included since the students show their answers on the slides. However, I do recommend having the students show their work on scratch paper.

*The content for the digital math centers is the SAME as the printable math centers. It has been modified for optimal digital use and engagement.

•For answer keys, please refer to the printable centers if answer keys are applicable. Due to student choice on many of the math centers, answer keys are not included for all of the centers.

Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators. For example, 2/3 + 5/4 = 8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, 𝘢/𝘣 + 𝘤/𝘥 = (𝘢𝘥 + 𝘣𝘤)/𝘣𝘥.)
Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions referring to the same whole, including cases of unlike denominators, e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem. Use benchmark fractions and number sense of fractions to estimate mentally and assess the reasonableness of answers. For example, recognize an incorrect result 2/5 + 1/2 = 3/7, by observing that 3/7 < 1/2.
Interpret a fraction as division of the numerator by the denominator (𝘢/𝘣 = 𝘢 ÷ 𝘣). Solve word problems involving division of whole numbers leading to answers in the form of fractions or mixed numbers, e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem. For example, interpret 3/4 as the result of dividing 3 by 4, noting that 3/4 multiplied by 4 equals 3, and that when 3 wholes are shared equally among 4 people each person has a share of size 3/4. If 9 people want to share a 50-pound sack of rice equally by weight, how many pounds of rice should each person get? Between what two whole numbers does your answer lie?
Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction or whole number by a fraction.
Interpret multiplication as scaling (resizing), by:
