Description

In this product, you'll find proficiency scales for all 5th-grade Common Core math standards. These scales are designed to drive instruction, support standards-based grading, and empower students to take ownership of their learning journey.

Each proficiency scale is structured to guide instruction and assessment for each specific standard. Before diving into a new standard, teachers can review the scale with students. Students then check off what they already know, setting a baseline for their learning. As they progress through the unit, they can track their learning by checking off skills they have mastered and identifying areas where they need additional support.

One of the key benefits of these proficiency scales is that they provide students with clarity on what they are learning and what they need to focus on. If a student is struggling with a particular skill, they can easily identify it on the scale and seek targeted help. Additionally, students can set goals and action steps based on their initial check marks, fostering a sense of agency and responsibility in their learning process.

After completing the assessment, students are encouraged to reflect on their learning journey. Did they reach their goals? If not, why? What adjustments can they make to achieve their goals in the future? These reflection prompts promote metacognition and help students develop valuable self-assessment skills.

Whether you use all the scales or select specific ones based on your district's power standards, these proficiency scales are a valuable tool for promoting student engagement, personalized learning, and mastery of 5th-grade math standards. Start using them today and watch your students thrive!

Convert among different-sized standard measurement units within a given measurement system (e.g., convert 5 cm to 0.05 m), and use these conversions in solving multi-step, real world problems.
Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8). Use operations on fractions for this grade to solve problems involving information presented in line plots. For example, given different measurements of liquid in identical beakers, find the amount of liquid each beaker would contain if the total amount in all the beakers were redistributed equally.
Recognize volume as an attribute of solid figures and understand concepts of volume measurement.
A cube with side length 1 unit, called a “unit cube,” is said to have “one cubic unit” of volume, and can be used to measure volume.
A solid figure which can be packed without gaps or overlaps using 𝘯 unit cubes is said to have a volume of 𝘯 cubic units.
