What educators are saying

I am using this as a review for seniors before they graduate. They are really enjoying going through the course, and it's great to watch them light up when they remember something correctly.
This resource is well worth it! My students love the games, and I love the diagramming sentence practice. Thank you!

    Description

This bundle essentially contains my full grammar curriculum that I taught over the course of a year in a 7th Grade English Language Arts class. The main focus of the curriculum is sentence diagramming, but as these middle school students progress through each topic, they increasingly encounter production-based tasks like writing assignments and error correction activities.

This bundle draws together nine separate mini units that I also sell separately. Each includes worksheets, activities, and summative quizzes, as well as PowerPoint slides for instruction. Many presentations also include bell work (bell ringers), exit tickets (exit cards), and numerous different styles of review games!

In addition, each collection comes with its own set of teaching notes, and the downloaded zipped folders include printable PDFs and editable DOC sheets or PPT slides for every resource mentioned. Please see those separate product pages to get a sense of the wide range of resources that I've compiled!

In creating this bundle, I've also put together an easy-to-navigate scope and sequence, which you can view in this product's preview. This lays out the overall structure that I used when I taught these lessons. In total, there is enough for about 60 days of lesson and activities, though the resources could easily be expanded or adapted for other uses.

My overall goal in the creation of this curriculum was to empower my students to grow in their understanding of the function of EVERY WORD they write and read. Starting with basic instruction on subjects and verbs, each mini unit in this bundle is designed to build upon the last, culminating in students achieving true critical understanding of most basic grammatical structures and sentence types. This, I believe, is much more important than simply learning to identify parts of speech or "drill and kill" multiple choice exercises. To those who might see sentence diagramming as old fashioned, I’ve still found to be an effective teaching tool that can shape holistically well-rounded young writers IF it is contextualized well and paired with authentic writing and error correction!

    UNITS INCLUDED IN THIS BUNDLE:

*And as bonus resources, I'm also including:

    • My separate activity on mentor sentences, which is another great activity to pair with diagramming instruction!
    • 5 pages (with corresponding PPT and JPEG files) of blank "diagramming skeletons," which include opportunities for students to write sentences that suit certain diagrams

If you're looking for more sentence diagramming resources, be sure to check out my new "Escape-style" activity!
