Description
Brain on Fire is based on the best-selling memoir by Susannah Cahalan. Cahalan began showing signs that was believed to be bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. Doctors wanted to admit her to a psychiatric hospital but her family would not give up hope. She was diagnosed with Anti-NMDA-Receptor Autoimmune Encephalitis with the help of Dr. Najjar. Her diagnosis and memoir have helped others receive a proper diagnosis.
The film is from 2016 but was released on Netflix during the summer of 2018. The film would be great in Psychology when studying Biological Bases of Behavior or Treatment of Psychological Disorders since they believed for bit that it was psychosis. This movie would also be great in a Science course or Nurse's Aide course when studying the brain and patient care.
My movie guide has 40 questions and an answer guide has been provided for your convenience. The movie is 88 minutes long and is rated PG-13 for thematic elements, brief language and partial nudity. PLEASE NOTE- You see her boyfriend's butt as he is walking through the apartment. He is holding a guitar in front of him and is not wearing anything else. It is a scene you could quickly skip or fast forward through. It is towards the beginning of the film. The movie stars , Chloe Brace Moretz, Tyler Perry, Jenny Slate, Thomas Mann, and Carrie-Anne Moss.
PRINT AND DIGITAL- This assignment is available in a PDF format and in Google Slides. The Google Slides version would be great for Distance Learning. Students would access to Netflix to view the documentary. The link for the Google Slides version is at the bottom of the Answer Key on the PDF version. I have also provided two versions of the PDF. One has the entire movie guide on two pages and would allow you to only use one sheet of paper if printed two-sided. The other version has the questions spread out over 3 pages and provides more writing space.
