AP Psychology Scientific Foundations Research/Lab Bundle: 2 Experiments

The AP Psychology test does not require hands on psychological research to have been done, but having students conduct their own experimental research, data analysis, and write up, requires them to have a deep understanding of the fundamental aspects of the research methods required for them to know.

This bundle, at a 15% discount from buying them separately, includes two different experiments for students to run: one looking at the correlations between music preference and Big 5 personality, and one looking at the connections between color and memory. In my classroom, I ran each project concurrently, with one group of students running one experiment and one group of students running the other.

Each project provides students with a topic and foundational journal article, and asks them to create their own study to look at the stated topic. The projects provide scaffolds for each step, guiding them through how to read a journal article, how to consider bias and set up procedures, how to look at ethics surrounding experimentation, and examples of data analysis and lab reports.

From beginning to end, for each project, students will read a journal article, use it as a model to write their own experiment, conduct their surveys, analyze the data, and write up a complete lab report. Each step has a clear deliverable for the teacher and a basic guide on how to complete it.

The projects do not include instructions on how to analyze the data.

Each project comes with: a teacher guide, overall assignment sheet, article reading guide to answer and journal article on the topic, pre-experimentation questions on bias and hypotheses, experimental design worksheet, ethics documents, final lab report examples, and a student peer evaluation for group projects. The music and personality experiment also comes with an example data analysis excel sheet.
