What educators are saying

Perfect for the beginning of the year in K when we are just learning letter sounds and book handling.
This resource has now been integrated into my everyday teaching. The students enjoyed using this resource.

Description

Level up teaching the alphabet with alphabet decodables! Decodable readers aren't just for students who are reading words. Alphabet decodable books are a great way to work on concepts of print, letter sounds and beginning sounds, and vocabulary in preschool, pre-K, or kindergarten.

Wait! These alphabet decodables are included in the Pre-K Phonics Curriculum! If you already own the Pre-K Phonics Curriculum Unit 1, you can download these there.

These alphabet books are TRUE alphabet decodable readers. They do NOT ask students to read large words that are not decodable to them. Rather, students will be reading letters and pictures.

HOW TO USE THE ALPHABET DECODABLE BOOKS:

To use these alphabet books, students will point to each page and read the letter sounds and then say the picture - /b/, /b/, book.

This will help students understand that letters in print represent sounds that we read. It also helps students learn beginning sounds and vocabulary.

Vocabulary words are included on the back of each book. Use the vocabulary to do a picture preview before reading, and then use them to review letter sounds after reading. You can have students point to the letter and then picture and say - Bb, balloon, /b/.

These alphabet decodables are an easy double-sided print and fold design! Directions for printing or copying double-sided are included. No stapling or cutting required!

What are the benefits of these alphabet decodable readers?

  • They teach concepts of print and book handling
  • Teach that text represents spoken sounds and words
  • Learn letter sounds and beginning sounds
  • Teach and strengthen vocabulary and background knowledge

26 alphabet decodable books are included. One book for each letter of the alphabet is included.

Do you own my Alphabet Prereaders Science of Reading Unit? These are NOT the same alphabet decodable readers, but they are laid out very similarly! You may choose to use these to extend those lessons and get extra practice!
