American Music History - Semester Course Curriculum

    Semester Course Curriculum

    AMERICAN MUSIC and CULTURAL HISTORY

This is the full 18-week semester course curriculum - American Music History.

Enrich your classroom with an innovative curriculum exploring the history of America's diverse cultures and musical art forms in the context of major historical events as students build a timeline of American music.

Our American Music History curriculum for classrooms is an 18-lesson series detailing the history of American roots music in conjunction with American history. Our lessons integrate reading, video content, music, storytelling, geography, and history. Students will learn to recognize different genres of American music and understand important cultural contributions to American culture from diverse music pioneers throughout history. Each lesson inspires critical thinking, cultural understanding, and music appreciation.

Beautifully designed, our program is complete with teacher guides, specific learning objectives, project-based learning activities, and higher-order thinking questions for discussion. Our content-rich curriculum is in line with California State Standards for social studies and visual and performing arts - providing historical and cultural context - and the ethnic studies model curriculum.

Through engaging, and content-rich lessons that trace the history of blues, jazz, country, rock and roll, soul, rap, punk, and more in the timeline of American history, students gain an appreciation for American music and an understanding of our diverse cultural history.

Students learn to understand the context and connections between historical events and larger social, economic, and political developments as they explore the relationship between music and history. The lessons promote self and collective empowerment and showcase how young people created societal change via artistic expression in each generation throughout American history.

Each lesson contains a music playlist, artwork, historical photography, activities, video content, reading excerpts, and discussion in this award-winning, innovative, and fun course!
