What educators are saying
Description
In the American Revolution Battles Student Project, 7 events are broken up and each is assigned to a student group (4 students per group are ideal). Students will conduct basic research, and create a small presentation to the class, to showcase the event.
The events that students will research are:
The Battle of Bunker Hill
The Battle of Trenton
The Battle of Charleston
The Battle of Long Island
The Battle of Saratoga
The Battle of Yorktown
The Winter at Valley Forge (I know, I know! It's not a battle. This makes the project more of an "events" project.)
All the needed information is included, including Role Directions for each student, required reading material, and maps and pictures to give students an idea of what it was like. This product is 1:1 Google compatible -- just share through Google or assign via Google Classroom!
In a group of 4, two students become "historians" and they fill out the required "Event Report" paper for their given event. (Check those out in the preview!) The Historians then create a "poster" where they will teach the rest of the class about their event. Meanwhile, when students present, the rest of the class should receive blank "Event Report" papers for each event, then they will fill out the report as the group presents.
Another student becomes the "Developer." This student, after thoroughly reading and understanding the event, creates a picture that accurately captures a "scene" of the event. They should be detailed and specific, using arrows to clarify who each person is and what the picture is showing. These will be photocopied on the accompanied paper, then distributed on presentation day. Students will then "glue" down the picture on the correct Event Report as groups present. The Developer will then create the same picture again on the final poster.
Finally, the Thespian is in charge of creating a scene that the student team will "act out." Four scripts should be made and props should be arranged by the Thespian. The Thespian should focus on the "highlights" of their event (ESPN only shows the highlights from a game). A final group quiz is also included!
This is a blast for students to do as it teaches essential content AND gets them excited and engaged with the material. The fact that each student has a "role" is very powerful in maintaining high time-on-task and student interest!
