What educators are saying
Description
Are you looking to FASCINATE your students through a learning experience that builds meaning about the Olympic games and entertainment of Ancient Greece? As History teachers, we have the opportunity to create experiences for our students to learn through creative experiential learning. Students love competition, and this learning experience has adapted to be a competition.
Allow your students to DISCOVER ways the Ancient Greeks held the Olympics. I use this lesson to bring some extreme ENGAGEMENT into the classroom through hands-on play that incorporates movement and different learning styles. These eight games align with your World History Curriculum and are rigorous! Use the assessment questions at the end or throughout and allow students to use Higher-Order Thinking Skills to connect to today's world and relevant, personal learning.

If you have read The Wild Card by Hope and Wade King, you know the two rules of RIGOR that I chose to drive this lesson.
1 - Application over Memorization
2 - All students are accountable
Your students will experience the parts of history that make the unit fun and interesting to learn!
Do you want a learning experience that is FLEXIBLE for your specific needs? You choose how many of these games to use. Also, the amount you do at one time is up to you. You could incorporate 1-2 daily while students learn other content, or do 3-4 daily and do all the games within a couple of days.
The EIGHT games and activities have been adapted in a hands-on way to teach the following central themes and topics about the Ancient Greek Olympics:
Chariot Racing
Equestrian Horse Racing
Wrestling
Boxing
Pankration
Stade Race
The Long Jump
The Discus Throw
Students LOVE this as it gets them actively learning about Ancient Greece, and they can compete with other students. I hope that you love this product!
