Description

The Code of Hammurabi is a major legacy of Ancient Mesopotamia. Hammurabi's Code established the ideas of "rule of law" and "innocent until proven guilty," which form the basis of modern democratic law.

This Primary Source DBQ introduces students to a cross section of the 282 Laws of Hammurabi. Students analyze the laws using the US National Archives DBQ analysis model.
