4 Versions of the Animal and Plant Structures and Functions Vocabulary Journal

You can use one of the four versions available with your students depending on your students' needs. You may print different versions for different students depending on what is either on their IEP or how it will help them grasp the vocabulary without overwhelming them.

Version 1: blank page- students will have to write down everything from the vocabulary word, definition, example, and an image of the word

Version 2: complete page- the work has been done for the students. They will have everything typed up and including an image. This is great to send home to families to review the words prior to starting your unit or class.

Version 3: the journal includes the vocabulary word and the definition and the students will need to complete an example and an image. This is great for students that have difficulty copying from the board or need more time writing.

Version 4: the journal includes the vocabulary word, definition, and example. The student will need to make a sketch. This page is great for newcomers or very beginner English Language Learners or students that require it on their IEPs.

NGSS4-LS1-1
Construct an argument that plants and animals have internal and external structures that function to support survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction. Examples of structures could include thorns, stems, roots, colored petals, heart, stomach, lung, brain, and skin. Assessment is limited to macroscopic structures within plant and animal systems.
NGSS4-LS1-2
Use a model to describe that animals receive different types of information through their senses, process the information in their brain, and respond to the information in different ways. Emphasis is on systems of information transfer. Assessment does not include the mechanisms by which the brain stores and recalls information or the mechanisms of how sensory receptors function.
