What educators are saying

My students love using this resource in small group instruction! Perfect resource for a research project!
This was a successful way to keep students engaged and they loved showing off what they had learned about different topics.

Description

Do you want to help your students learn how to conduct arctic animal research but aren't sure how to scaffold it to best support their needs? This arctic animal research project will do just that! Your students will conduct animal research and practice writing skills as they create a final presentation about their arctic animal.

Encourage your kinders to research and write better sentences with these simple animal research project template sheets that are perfect for your winter animal studies! This kindergarten research project will leave your students buzzing with excitement and wanting to learn more about arctic animals.

Included in this arctic animals research project:

  • 16 Animals: Polar Bear, Reindeer, Penguin, Puffin, Moose, Walrus, Arctic Hare, Arctic Fox, Orca, Arctic Wolf, Snowy Owl, Narwhal, Seal, Beluga Whale, Ox, and Dall Sheep
  • Each animal includes 4 Sheets:
  1. Informational Facts Graphic Organizer with bullets to teach animals "can", "have", and "are"
  2. Writing Paper to encourage students to illustrate and write a simple sentence or two after completing the organizer (great to collect for writing samples or assessments at conclusion of research unit)
  3. Investigation Sheet to encourage students to "predict", "illustrate", "measure", and "describe"
  4. Interactive Notebook Shutter Fold for each animal to keep in science journals

Your students will LOVE the interactivity of this arctic animals research project, but they probably won't get the chance to actually touch and measure the real winter animals, so I suggest you bring in a stuffed animal or toy version of each one as you study it and have it in a surprise bag. Students can guess what animal is in the bag by reaching their hand inside and using the clues they can feel. Then you can bring it out and discuss it.

During this arctic animals research project you and your students will look at videos and books to learn about the nonfiction ideas about the animal. Then you can use these animal research project sheets to build a nonfiction book of their own to keep in book bins for reading to self.

❤️ I love these kindergarten research templates to encourage my students to break out of the "I see" and "I like" sentences and start creating more varied types of sentences to make their writing more exciting!
