Art Sub Lesson: Kooky Cars

This art sub plan is about a real type of sculptural art called Art Cars. Warhol created one. Lichtenstein created one. Keith Haring created one. Every day people create them too.

This PowerPoint lesson gives the teacher a script with questions about a variety of art cars and inspires the students into creating drawings of original art cars.

This lesson was written so that it could be taught by a substitute teacher, but would also be appropriate for art teachers and classroom teachers, with or without art experience.

This is a lesson that I have taught as a substitute art teacher. (I spent 30 years as an art teacher and now sub for my friends.) When I teach this lesson, the students are highly engaged. This lesson encourages them to imagine things they have never seen before while using their own personal interests as subject matter.

I teach this as a one class lesson when I sub, but it may be extended for a second class. (You could further discuss background and coloring.)

It may be used as a projected PowerPoint or printed out and shown up close to a class of students.
