Back to School Word Problems

This resource includes 20 word problems with a back to school theme. The skills in this pack vary but are better suited for grades 5-6 (or higher 4th grade students) at this point in the school year. The skills are actually 4th and 5th grade standards, but at this point in the year, your students may need a review of previous grades.

About the Word Problems

There are two different types of word problems in this resource.

Problems #1-10:

• The first ten include one word problem with an optional challenge question on the bottom of the page.
• The challenge questions is more challenging and requires information from the original problem to solve.
• This set of 10 is great for differentiating. The students could do the original problem on their own, and the challenge could be completed in small groups, with partners, or whole group.

Problems #11-20:

• The second set of 10 problems are multi-part problems. Each printable includes two word problems.
