I love adding this book to my week of Thanksgiving activities. Students love the activities and then we round the unit out with watching clips of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
I loved this resource for the day before Thanksgiving break! My students love the book "Balloons Over Broadway" and this was the perfect activity!
Description
Balloons Over Broadway is the charming story of Tony Sarg and his upside-down puppets that have become Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade icons! Your students will fall in love with Melissa Sweet’s incredible picture book and you will love the lesson it provides your students. Tony’s inventions were always exceptional but that didn’t stop him from finding ways to improve!
The following companion includes multiple ELA activities like retelling (story maps and BME), comparing, cause and effect, character evaluation, authors message/purpose, a writing prompt and vocabulary (puzzles and book).
Additionally, I have included a Science Investigation and STEM challenge to accompany the story! There are background and instructional pages, posters, examples, a resource page, a recording page (recommended for younger students), journal (with 2 cover page options), and a reproducible page to be used to assemble the plane used in the STEM activity.
Students of all ages will truly enjoy diving into this incredible story as well as engaging in the engineering design process.
