Hi, I hope you enjoy this STEM challenge actually I should say STEAM challenge because this activity really brings the art. Thanksgiving is the perfect time to bring in this Balloons Over Broadway activity.
This was designed to go along with the book Balloons Over Broadway The True Story of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. A great story of STEM in action. Perfect as we prepare for Thanksgiving.
This resource is so fun. Let your students choose their balloon animal I have 14 animals bear, unicorn, elephant, panda, peacock, pig, cat, rabbit, turkey, lamb, lion, dog, bat, mouse, frog, and a “choose your own” so they can unleash their creativity I also have a reflections sheet. All you need is some balloons, construction paper, and tape.
You can make the balloons stay up by putting a pipe cleaner in a straw and taping it on. Once your students have created all their balloons head out on your own parade. Use the cover sheet to create a class STEM journal.
