Description

CVC decodable readers passages reading comprehension become easy with these short stories and questions that help your students build fluency in reading short vowel CVC words and understand what they read.

Here’s what you’ll get:

34 reading comprehension passages: 

  • Touch and read CVC words
  • Identify words in the passage and highlight them
  • Read the passage
  • Answer 3 questions (The students are given two answers to choose from for each question)
  • Reread the passage 3 times, and each time color a picture representing a CVC word from the corresponding family.

Each passage comes with pictures that relate to the passage. 

Students improve the following skills: 

  • Comprehension of the text
  • Decoding in context 
  • Reading fluency

Short a:

  • -ad:  Dad’s Lad
  • -ag: Meg’s Bag
  • -al: Jen’s Pal
  • -am: Ron the Ram
  • -an: Dan’s Van
  • -ap: Zap and his Map
  • -ar: Tara’s Car
  • -at: Pat the Cat
  • -ax: Jax and his Sax

Short e:

  • -eb: Deb’s Web
  • -ed: The Fat Pet
  • -eg: Peg the Dog
  • -en: Jen the hen
  • -et: Jet the Pet

Short i:

  • -id:  Sid the kid
  • -ig: Zig the Pig
  • -in: Lin and the Pins
  • -ip: Sia’s Zip
  • -ix: Jix is big

Short o:

  • -od: In the Garden
  • -og: Fred the Frog
  • -op: Hin the Hare
  • -ot: Tina the Tot
  • -ox: The Ox and the Fox

Short u:

  • -ub: Zub the Cub
  • -ud: Buds in the Mud
  • -ug: The Pug and the Bug

These worksheets can be used in centers or small groups.

No prep: Just print them and give them to your students.

Low-prep: Alternatively you can laminate them, and the student can use dot markers to show their work.

As the worksheets are differentiated and easy to solve individually they can be used in:

• Small groups

• Early Finishers

• Morning Activity
