Challenge Project: Black Holes
- PDF
Description
Challenge Projects are designed as differentiated experiences for any student - whether he/she is gifted, high potential, average, underachievers, English language learners, struggling, and/or displaying other special needs. These enrichment units are designed to be chosen by students based upon their interests and strengths.
Challenge Projects do not have a set length of study. Rather, each avenue of study should be flexible and determined by the length of time daily that a student is able to devote to it, as well as the amount of student interest that persists over time.
Each investigation should be adapted for the developmental level and the fascinations of the specific student engaged with the topic. Not all suggested tasks need to be completed, but related curiosities should be encouraged and supported.
Within the range of tasks, subjects such as language arts, art, science, math, writing, and social studies provide a balanced curricular experience. In addition, critical thinking skills are encouraged throughout.
Challenge Projects lend themselves to the development of research skills and the skills involved in the creation of various products. Research skills are embedded with the Common Core literacy standards.
