What educators are saying

This is such a great, well-thought-out project, and the final product flags look great in the classroom. Will use this one over and over again!
This was a perfect resource to add to my unit on finding your own voice! It brings in so many standards, connects to people that students are interested in learning about and offers them creative opportunities in addition to the other relevant skills! So glad to have found it!

Description

This activity is a research project for students to research change-makers in both the past and present. It can be used in conjunction with a unit on change and changing for the better to help people. It could also be used as a stand alone, as a project in conjunction with social issues book clubs, and much more.

This bundle includes:

  • Teacher instructions/overview (includes notes, modification ideas, alternative assessment ideas, font list, etc.) (PDF)
  • Change-maker assignment sheet (PDF and editable PPT)
  • Research resources list with at least 3 resources for each topic/person (PDF and editable PPT)
  • Research notes graphic organizer (PDF)
  • Paragraph outline for formal paragraph using text evidence (PDF and editable PPT)
  • Pennant assessment instructions (PDF and editable PPT)
  • Pennant photos (for printing for students) (PPT)
  • Blank pennant (PDF)
  • Sample pennant (completed by me as an example) (PDF)
  • Gallery walk handout (PDF)

I've completed this research project with both 8th graders and 6th graders and it is easily adaptable for even 5th graders or high schoolers, depending on the modifications you make. It's a great way to tie in relevant, meaningful, and inclusive curriculum into your classrooms in a way that meets standards and has students think critically about the world around them, both past and present.
