Description

The weeks leading up to winter break is the perfect time to work on literary devices/figurative language and a poetry unit. This Christmas Poet-Tree is just the thing you need get your students excited about these fabulous poetry devices.

The students will learn about personification, alliteration, onomatopoeia, hyperbole, simile, and metaphor. Each of these are used in poetry and add life to dull language. Students will be given examples of these in a Christmas theme.

They will then write their own examples, all within the same topic of "Christmas". The topic is rather open, and they can write about what they see around them, it should be accessible to all students in your classroom. To help them along, there is a brainstorming page with many different pictures of "Christmas" and winter designed to get their creative juices flowing!

Finally, all of the poems will be written on Christmas trees themselves and mounted on a bulletin board or stapled together, to form a "Poet-Tree"! The students get to be creative here, enjoying time to not only do some art, but write as well.

Makes a great display as well as providing differentiated rigor for each level of student represented in your room.

Classroom tested. Great for a center, independent work, whole class instruction....even homework!
