What educators are saying

My students loved getting these in the mail! My only wish is that it had lines for addressing a postcard.

Why I created this:

It is so fun to do holiday activities in the classroom and have students write about holiday fun they will have and do fun holiday crafts, but while you are looking forward to your holiday break, you have students who are heading back home to hard circumstances. We all have students who dread the holidays because it means more time at home where they aren’t safe. Abuse, neglect, alcoholic caregivers, lacking basic needs like food or medical care…it is painful to think about these hard things, and we want to believe this isn’t happening to our students. But as a foster mom, I can’t help but be a little sad every time I see adorable Christmas crafts/activities on TpT or Pinterest that are meant to lighten up the classroom and get students ready to enjoy the holidays because I know that for some students, your school might be the only safe place they go to, and the holidays might not be so merry for them.

So what do we do with this? We can’t just wallow around in sadness for these kids, and I am not suggesting that we neglect to do fun holiday-themed craftivities and worksheets and writing prompts. I have plenty of those that I have created and used with students, and students love these! I think the way that we remedy this situation is by making sure that these kids know that we see them. That we love them. That someone will be thinking about them or praying about them over the holidays. That our classroom will always be a place of safety for them, and they are loved and cared about immensely.

I created these Christmas cards for your students as a way for you to help you show your students your love and care for them! I have included some things that you can say to your students to encourage them, uplift them, and show them that someone cares deeply for them! We can’t always change their circumstances (though if you suspect abuse or neglect, you should obviously report it to authorities!), but you can do your part to love these kids well.

To use this resource:

  1. Print the pages for the cards that you want to give out! (Giving different cards to different students can be a fun way to personalize the message to them!)
  2. Cut along the middle, dotted line (between the two messages on each page!).
  3. Fold along the solid black line! This should give you a card with plenty of room to write a short and sweet personal message to your students!
