What educators are saying

My students enjoyed being able to become "experts" on a single battle and share their information they gathered with the class. Made for a more enjoyable learning experience!
I loved having this resource for an end of unit project. It was so easy for the kids to complete and easy for me to grade!

Description

There were thousands of battles during the American Civil War and it can be difficult for students to remember the most important ones. This is a great project that can help with that! Students work in groups of 2-3 to research one significant battle and create a Google Slides presentation using a template. (This project will work for any Civil War battle.) The groups present their projects to the class while the other students take notes on the basic battle information.

This product includes a zip file with the following:

  • Explicit teacher instructions on how to implement this project easily in your classroom.
  • Ready to print project & presentation guidelines that detail all requirements for students.
  • Ready to print rubric that allows you to easily grade the projects while they're being presented.
  • A download link to the project template along with instructions on how to attach it to an assignment if you're using Google Classroom.
  • Ready to print student recording sheet so students can take notes while their peers are presenting.
  • Editable Powerpoint files for the guidelines, rubric, and battle slips so you can customize the project however you'd like. *Please note that due to clip art copyright rules, the Google Slides template has backgrounds that cannot be edited. You can still add or delete slides as you'd like.
  • Answer key for 10 major battles: Antietam, Appomattox Courthouse, Atlanta, Fort Sumter, Fredericksburg, First Battle of Bull Run (First Manassas), Chancellorsville, Shiloh, Gettysburg, and Vicksburg.

If you choose to use the ready to print guidelines and rubric, this is a no-prep product! All you have to do is make copies of the documents and assign the template to the students. This is a great activity that allows students to collaborate, research, and practice their speaking and listening skills.

Please download the preview to get specific details on everything that's included in this product. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have before purchasing.

Please have the appropriate software to open ZIP, PPT, and PDF files before purchasing this product.
