    WHAT TEACHERS ARE SAYING:

⭐️ You can use these slide decks/presentations in face-to-face, virtual/distance learning, flipped learning, and/or hybrid learning instruction. Each product could also be used with advanced 7th or 8th-grade classes, such as an AVID class. The most ideal grade level to use these lessons with is 9th, 10th, or 11th grade to help students get an early start on college planning; however, you could also use these lessons with 12th graders or in an adult education class, as it's never too late to think about going to college and exploring careers!

⭐️ My AVID Scope and Sequence is included FREE in this bundle to give you a possible plan to follow, but this bundle is not just for AVID classes! It's great for any college and career readiness class! Note: A few lessons on my AVID Scope and Sequence are not included in this bundle (e.g., the Back-to-School Icebreakers for High School, Team-Building Challenges/Fun Friday Activities, Growth Mindset Monday Bell Ringers, and Gratitude Lesson for High School), and need to be purchased separately, but most of the recommended resources on the scope and sequence are in this bundle.

⭐️ You'll also want to download one of my FREE AVID pacing guides to help you decide how to use the products in this bundle.

    IMPORTANT NOTES:

    • EACH OF THESE PRODUCTS IS ALSO SOLD SEPARATELY!
    • You do NOT have to allow access to your Google Drive for any of these products.
    • I have a Pear Deck version of 1) Options after High School, 2) Is College Worth It, 3) How to Pay for College, 4) How to Choose a Career, 5) How to Choose a College, 6) Types of College Degrees, 7) Types of Colleges, 8) Job Interview Tips, 9) How to Ask for a Letter of Recommendation, 10) How to Apply to College, 11) How to Write a Resume, and 12) How to Write a Cover Letter. They are sold in a different bundle as well as separately.
    • While the slide decks have a lot of slides, they are easy to read and get through because each slide is visually stimulating and limited to one idea, and questions and places for answers are included in each slide deck (title, questions, and closing page are included in page count).
    • The slides will open in Google Slides, but you could also download each presentation to PowerPoint without losing any of the formatting.
    • The time it takes for each slide show will vary depending on your students' levels and how much discussion and other activities you include. You can get through one slide show in 30-45 minutes if you just lecture or you can make it more interactive and spend an hour to a couple of days on each presentation, which I would suggest if it fits into your schedule. This way you will have more time for the discussion questions and suggested extension activities.

⭐️ FREE BONUS INCLUDED: Socratic Seminar Lesson Plan --

Improve your students' critical thinking and communication skills with this interactive Google Slides presentation -- a complete lesson on carrying out a Socratic Seminar, including a Socratic Seminar definition, Socratic Seminar self-assessment rubric, rules for Socratic Seminar, Socratic Seminar sentence starters/frames, AND moderator question frames. There are also slides to add your Socratic Seminar questions and readings! If you do a Socratic Seminar with at least two of the topics (ideas included), assign 3-4 readings with each topic, and follow up (extend/elaborate) with the extension assignments, this entire bundle gives you enough material for two years!

⭐️ Get Socratic seminar tips on my blog: 10 Powerful Tips Every Teacher Needs to Have a Better Socratic Seminar.

⭐️ The best part is these are interactive presentations, e.g., Students can type their responses to the given questions directly on the slides (text boxes are already there) and get more information by clicking hyperlinks. You can also add your own links to a Google Form, Jamboard, Padlet, or another platform, or add PearDeck slides where students can share their answers.

⭐️ There is almost no prep needed to present the slides, unless you decide to extend the lesson or add links/slides, but I have some ideas included to make it easy for you!

⭐️ I have put a lot of time into creating this product and hope you find it useful. If you have any questions, find any errors, or have suggestions, please email me directly so I can help you and improve this resource.

    WHAT'S INCLUDED:

Each of the products comes as a PDF document with instructions, a lesson plan, suggestions for use, and a link to a force copy of the interactive Google Slides presentation. There are questions at the beginning of each presentation to activate students’ prior knowledge and questions at the end to stimulate critical thinking. And as mentioned above, there are also links to either articles, videos, or related websites embedded in each presentation, which students may click to learn more about each topic.

⭐️ The Google Slides lessons include everything a good lesson should have:

    • Explicit instruction: Lessons are direct and systematically chunked following a 5E lesson plan and guide students with a clear purpose/essential question, explanation, and supported practice/extension (see more below).
    • 21st-century skills: Students use media and technology literacy skills with these interactive Google Slides presentations and use critical thinking, collaboration, and communication with all the opportunities for discussion.
    • Multi-modalities and hands-on learning: Students view and/or listen to the presentations, write and talk about their learning in “think-write-pair-shares” and discussion groups, and possibly more depending on what you assign in the extension, such as producing an essay or video to demonstrate understanding and synthesizing ideas.
    • Differentiation and Universal Design for Learning: This lesson allows you to accommodate the needs of all your students. Depending on students’ levels, you could present to the class as a whole and/or assign students to view the slides independently or in small groups and answer the questions as you see fit.
    • Scaffolding: These complete lessons come in manageable parts, from activating prior knowledge to reflection and assessment, and can be teacher- or student-paced.
    • Higher levels of questioning: The discussion questions require higher-level thinking such as analysis, evaluation, and synthesis.
    • Real-life connection: The college and career-readiness topics and essential questions are meaningful and relevant to students’ futures.
    • Student choice: To add student choice, give students options of strategies, tools, and/or extension activities.

    The 5E Lesson Framework:

    • Engage: Get students interested.
    • Explore: Activate students' prior knowledge.
    • Explain: Explicit instruction on the topic.
    • Elaborate/Extend: Students apply their learning (discussion questions and/or an extension activity).
    • Evaluate: Students reflect and assess their learning.

    SUGGESTIONS FOR USE:

    1. Present the slides in a face-to-face lecture OR through a video conference lecture by sharing your screen. To make your presentation more interactive and engaging (and less of a teacher-centered lecture), be sure to have students answer the questions and share their answers at the beginning and end of the presentation, stop to check comprehension, use peer teaching, and clarify or explain anything as needed.

    2. OR, you can just send the slides to your students by email or Google Classroom to work on independently or in small groups and type their answers on the slides, a Google Form, or a separate document -- whichever you prefer (make sure you make a copy for each student). I prefer to have advanced students go over the slides in small groups, taking turns reading each slide, instead of me presenting to the whole class, but with my small English Learners classes, I present the slides myself. What you choose to do could vary by class.

    3. Do some kind of combination of #1 and 2. For example, use the slides to present to the whole class and review the lesson, and then send the slides to students and allow them to work independently or in small groups. You may also want to present to only part of the class, work one-on-one with some students, and let others work independently. You know your students and their needs best!

    4. Follow the lesson plan and see the extra ideas given in the product directions.
