Description

Colonization Rap

Chorus
I can hear it calling me,
Life in the New World colony
Take a chance at life and be set free,
Never mind what’s stalling me

Verse 1
Colonize means to settle down, discovered our new land so let’s build the town
Freedom for the individual is the reason for us to go colonial
Pilgrims, Puritans, and the Quakers desire religious freedom from policy makers
You tell us what we can’t and can, together we stand up against the man

Verse 2
William Penn is my name, Pennsylvania Quakers can’t complain
The Massachusetts Puritan colony, practicing religion in harmony
Pilgrims Plymouth in 1620, building lives of trade commerce and money
Three groups settling their way, fun to play the game in a brand new day

Chorus
I can hear it calling me,
Life in the New World colony
Take a chance at life and be set free,
Never mind what’s stalling me

Verse 3
Puritans were strict without relief, expelling people not following beliefs
Passed a law, every child must read, living in Massachusetts Bay colony
First Puritan governor John Winthrop, among the Puritans he was at the top
Puritans because they’re so pure, striving for perfection was their only cure

Verse 4
In New England we like to fish, refine the sugar and build the ships
Silver and Sugar by the ton, talking about Savannah and Charleston
As New England cities began to grow, whaling and fishing were on the go
Corn, wheat, lumber, rice, indigo, products from the south adding to the flow

Chorus
I can hear it calling me,
Life in the New World colony
Take a chance at life and be set free,
Never mind what’s stalling me

Verse 5
My Southern plantation just won’t stop, instead of money I use the cash crops
Colonization effect just not right, forced from their homes in the middle of the night
The Cherokees, Creeks, and the Shawnee, injustice taking place in Tennessee
We didn’t want pain, hurt or doom, just had to scoot them over to make a little room

Verse 6
We rule ourselves this is a fact, just take a look at the Mayflower Compact
The fist American self-government, to keep the order we are bent
Want to come but can’t afford the way? At my plantation work off your pay
Your hard work will help me pay the rent, you can be my Indentured Servant

Chorus
I can hear it calling me,
Life in the New World colony
Take a chance at life and be set free,
Never mind what’s stalling me

Verse 7
Indentured Servants, African Slaves, for wealthy planters working hard without pay
Slavery abolished in 1865, took a long time for justice to arrive
People viewed slaves as property, one reason to desire to be free
Colonization had negative impact, enslaving Africans is proof of that

Verse 8
Britain, British Colonies, Africa, made Triangle trade route traffic come
From the British colonies to Great Britain, furs, lumber, rice, and tobacco were hitting
Mystic, Hudson, Charles, Mississippi, river systems influence of settlement history
We are here and settling down, its time to prosper so we’ll see ya around

Chorus
I can hear it calling me,
Life in the New World colony
Take a chance at life and be set free,
Never mind what’s stalling me
