Color Design Principles and Color Psychology Lesson

The following lesson is designed to introduce students to color theory and color psychology used in marketing. It may be useful as a pre-lesson to students creating an effective website, Instagram post, print ad, flyer, or poster. Color truly helps tell the story. Color can enhance the message or distract so learning the ideal color choices for your next project is a must!

Resource includes:

  • student notes
  • video link to YouTube on introducing lesson content
  • a PowerPoint presentation (editable doc - I know you all prefer that - please do not share with other teachers - you may edit for your own purposes. Of course, you may share with students, ideally as a pdf)
  • question/assignment sheets
  • Lesson Guide: Warm-up to Presentation to Assignment to Closure

The resource docs may then be used by the students to guide them in subsequent projects like the creation of a website, Instagram post, Pinterest Pin, advertisement, or poster. These are word docs and/or PowerPoint as well as PDFs. These may be easily uploaded to Google Drive.

Students will be able to understand and begin to apply; marketing concepts, design principles, color theory, typography, and other technical knowledge required to create effective graphic designs and readable layouts.
