What educators are saying
Description
This form was created by Karen Natoci, M.S., CCC-SLP, to support team decision-making based on the results of a child's Communication Matrix Profile (authored by Dr. Charity Rowland, 2004.) Completion of this form results in an Implementation Plan. This Matrix Implementation Plan (MIP) is designed to be quick and easy for busy teams. The MIP also serves to support IEP team decisions for intervention and offers a nice framework for family and team education! The guide is sensitive to the most emergent communicators who may need tangibles and objects at first for topic clarity. This image shows some of the potential single symbols to model aligned with the Matrix results.
The MIP (Matrix Implementation Plan) includes ideas and illustrations centered on the premise that aided language input/modeling supports progress to next levels on the Matrix. Furthermore, progress on the Matrix is a result of caring and perceptive adults who (1) read the child's unaided behavioral expressions, (2) acknowledge them, and (3) provide shared meaning-making by (4) using aided language input/modeling. This supports a child's linguistic and social development toward their use of AAC.
A completed MIP (Matrix Implementation Plan) is organized by using an easy check-mark system so that it's quick and easy to understand with space to write details as appropriate. It is purposefully not so specific so that there is room to customize the plan by adding the WHO, WHEN, WHERE and HOW, and create those details with the family and/or team member.
