To begin this lesson, I start with the shading worksheet and then move to the individual facial features. After discovering how to create value, the facial features worksheets allow students to practice shading diverse skin tones. This also starts getting them used to using the grid method.
After that we use our rulers to create an 8x11 inch grid on drawing paper. If you want to skip this step (because teaching teenagers how to use a ruler is tricky and usually involves ruler sword fights) you can use the Blank Grid included in this resource. Then, I print out the options and students get to choose a celebrity to draw. I give them the choice of drawing half the face or the whole face. If they wish to draw only half the face, they will cut the print out of the face in half by cutting on the line closest to the middle of the face and then glueing down one side to their gridded paper. They keep the other half to reference.
As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns please reach out.
