What educators are saying

Teaching conversions is HARD! This tool was so helpful and provided a better understanding of conversions for my students.
These were great to use with my 4th and 5th grade students for our measurement unit! The visual ways that the units were represented were incredibly helpful!

Description

Description:

This is a resource I created in anticipation of teaching the customary and metric units of conversion; length, capacity, and weight. With input from fellow teachers, this has become the most popular set of posters/anchor charts in my store. IT IS NOT AN ACTIVITY (I don't know why you would confuse this with one)! I don't make those as there are plenty of ideas already out there on the internet. Plus, I'm not good at it. If you need activities, please check Pinterest.

NOTE!

THE ACCEPTED METHOD OF CUSTOMARY CONVERSIONS; Small to Big unit=divide, Big to small unit=multiply. If you believe that this is not accurate, please visit any online calculator to confirm or disprove this. I have REMOVED ALL OTHER "versions" of this resource requested in the past to simplify and avoid further confusion in the future.

Before you purchase, PLEASE VERIFY that the information in this resource is accurate and usable for you prior to purchasing or printing. IF THERE IS AN ERROR, which sometimes occurs when revisions are made, please message me for an immediate fix or use the PowerPoint that is included to make those changes more quickly.

I have included an assets folder of all the important graphics you will need to alter the PowerPoint to your liking. So if the arrows are going the wrong way, you can fix that issue. It will also fix any graphics that did not make it through 100% when I converted this from the Adobe Illustrator file.

Implementation

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is not an activity! Do not use this resource as such. I would not, I repeat, NOT recommend handing these out as a packet to your students. They are for you to utilize to fit your lesson and method of teaching this concept. Use 1 or all of them over a period of time that is suitable for your students' development, abilities, and progress.

LMS (Canvas, Google Classroom, etc.)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you intend to use this in any LMS, please upload the PDF to your file directory or embed it into your lesson. This is NOT interactive. If you need interactivity you can use a Chrome extension called KAMI to have you or your students annotate the PDF directly. Or you can use any extension that allows you to draw on/annotate electronic documents.

Fonts

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are fonts used in this resource are included, however, I claim no ownership or rights to them. They are included merely for convenience. They should NOT be considered an official part of this resource. As such, I cannot instruct you on their use or offer support for them.

Standards

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.MD.A.1

Know relative sizes of measurement units within one system of units including km, m, cm; kg, g; lb, oz.; l, ml; hr, min, sec. Within a single system of measurement, express measurements in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Record measurement equivalents in a two-column table. For example, know that 1 ft. is 12 times as long as 1 in. Express the length of a 4 ft. snake as 48 in. Generate a conversion table for feet and inches listing the number pairs (1, 12), (2, 24), (3, 36),

Languages

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have included a separate resource in Spanish. I am not a native speaker, relying solely on Google Translate to do the bulk of the work, I hope that the translation is accurate. If it is not, please message me for any corrections to make it language accurate.

No soy un hablante nativo de español. Estoy usando aplicacione para traducir mis cartas de anclaje al español. ¡Si hay cualquier error grammatical por favor notofy yo inmediatamente!

Printing

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Document dimensions 24" x 31" (scaled up from a letter-size format).

It will print safely on regular copy paper. Make sure that you have your settings to fit the document to print before you actually print, and print only the page/s you need.

Not a lot of wall space? Want to save paper? Display this on your interactive whiteboard during the lesson.

Editing

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is a high-resolution vector-based illustration created in graphic design software.

This file cannot be edited in any office software (ex, Word, Powerpoint). However, I discovered that you can use Inkscape, a FREE vector-based program, to open and edit the PDFs included in the download, although you will most likely need to make some adjustments to the file after you do, like swapping out fonts. This will enable you to use vector-based graphics for cleaner anchor charts/posters. You can also alter the PDF using Acrobat Pro. I have also included the original Adobe Illustrator file which has NOT been updated to match what is currently in the PDF. Use this at your own risk!

Issues/Corrections

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you spot a typo or other errors contact me immediately for a revision. I try to proofread my own work and have other sets of eyes check it as well, but some things slip through. I can make corrections nearly immediately. Don't hesitate to contact me. Please DO NOT print out ANYTHING until you have reviewed it thoroughly. Ink is too expensive to waste in this economy and it takes too many lessons to undo something you feel you taught incorrectly because of this resource!

Custom Work

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you need a custom version of this file, please don't hesitate to contact me.

I want you to be happy with your purchase!

Measure and estimate liquid volumes and masses of objects using standard units of grams (g), kilograms (kg), and liters (l). Add, subtract, multiply, or divide to solve one-step word problems involving masses or volumes that are given in the same units, e.g., by using drawings (such as a beaker with a measurement scale) to represent the problem.
