What educators are saying

My students love these pixel arts. Buy the bundle, you won't regret it. I bought them individually and ended up buying them all because the student's love them so much. Great review for the students.
Great activity to review counting atoms. Gave the students instant feedback of whether they got the question right.

Description

Try this engaging digital review activity after teaching your students how to count the number of atoms in chemical formulas that contain subscripts and coefficients! You will share a Google Sheets link with them that will allow them to Make A Copy of their own Abracadabra Pixel Art activity. There are 2 differentiated levels (located on Sheet 1 and Sheet 2 of the spreadsheet). Either tell students which level to complete, or have them all complete Level 1 and then try Level 2! They will count the number of atoms in 30 different chemical formulas and type their answers into the answer column. If the answer is correct, color will magically appear in the cells on the right-hand side of the spreadsheet. If the answer is incorrect, the color will not appear and the student will know that the answer is wrong. This Abracadabra Pixel Art is a baby narwhal.

In this product download, you will receive the link to access this activity in Google Drive. The link will take you to a screen that directs you to Make A Copy of the Google Sheets assignment into your own Drive. This is a self-checking activity, so have students show you their finished picture to check that they understand the skill of counting atoms! I have also included a link to the Answer Key for the activity, which you will also be able to add to your Drive.

Develop models to describe the atomic composition of simple molecules and extended structures. Emphasis is on developing models of molecules that vary in complexity. Examples of simple molecules could include ammonia and methanol. Examples of extended structures could include sodium chloride or diamonds. Examples of molecular-level models could include drawings, 3D ball and stick structures, or computer representations showing different molecules with different types of atoms. Assessment does not include valence electrons and bonding energy, discussing the ionic nature of subunits of complex structures, or a complete depiction of all individual atoms in a complex molecule or extended structure.
