Description

Your students will have so much fun while learning all about numbers, counting and 1:1 correspondence with this comprehensive kindergarten math unit. All activities are aligned to the Common Core standards as well as almost all state standards.

Included are over 180 pages of printable activities to use throughout the year in your classroom.

I prefer to "split" this unit and teach numbers 1-10 thoroughly in the fall, and then return in late winter to focus on numbers 10-20. These printables and activities are set up in a way you could do this, or teach all numbers 1-20 together.

Counting and Cardinality Assessments

Pre and Post Tests for all standards in the unit

Two versions included:

One version can be used if you split the unit to teach numbers 1-10 only and one version includes the standards using numbers 1-20.

Counting and Cardinality Standards Checklists

All the standards included for the unit in both COLOR and BW - simple and easy way to have your standards posted and great reference tool.

One version is perfect to send home to parents before you teach the unit. The heading reads: These are the Standards We Will Be Learning.

The second version can be sent home after you give the post test. The heading reads: These are the Standards I have Mastered! Date:____ This is a great way to show all the standards students mastered and what they still need to work on.

Center Activities

Number Mats

Print and laminate. Use with clay/dough, dry erase markers and/or counter chips (for 10 ten frames.)

I have children circle the target on the number line as well.

Gum ball Counting

Print and laminate. Children fill up the gumball machines with the correct number of gumballs. Use beans, color poms, beads, etc. as gumballs. Great center activity! Comes in two sizes (larger machines for the teen numbers.)

Animal Counting, number recognition and 1:1 correspondence

Print, laminate (cut apart if you wish) and use in centers. For 1-10, I use color poms, counting cubes, etc. for children to color match and place on each animal. For 10-20 I use number rods/units to match the pictures.

Roll & Cover/Color

I use the color version in a center and the BW version when the whole class plays the game. Two players take turn rolling the dice. When a player rolls two dice, they count the total and color/cover that number on their board. The first player to cover all the numbers on their board wins. If they roll a number that’s no longer available (already colored) they pass the dice to the other player.

Monster More/Less

Print and laminate both pages. Cut apart the number cards and the two monster mats. Two players need 1 monster mat and 2 sets of cards (mix together in one pile). Place the cards in a pile face down. (Two players) each draw 1 card, and figure out if their card goes on the more side or less side by looking at their opponents card. They place the card on the correct side of the monster. Game is over when all cards have been used.

Number Lines – Counting on

Print, laminate and cut apart if you wish. You can put them

on a binder ring for children to use as an activity. If you do this, I have children look at the black frame (complete number line) for assistance while they fill in the missing numbers. This is a great tool for practice using number lines and counting on. There are two versions: numbers (1-10) and (1-20).

Colorful Counter Cube Number Rods

Practice number recognition, patterns, counting and 1:1 correspondence with this activity. I print, laminate and cut the cards apart. Children use any kind of blocks or counter/color cubes to make their matching number rods.

Counting Cube Tower Mats

Children make towers using cubes or blocks on their mats to match the numbers. They can then place their number towers on the correct place. Comes in color and BW versions. I laminate the color mats to use in centers.

Self Starters/Worksheets

Perfect for self starers or a quick math warm up. Practice writing numbers, counting, 1:1 correspondence, number lines and ten frames. Students learn the routine of these very quickly.

Math Journal printables

Over 50 pages of math journal prompts and activities. Includes activities focusing on numbers 1-10 and numbers 1-20.

This is an incredibly helpful addition to ANY math program! Many of the resources are perfect for Pre-K classrooms and beginning of the year first grade classrooms as well.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Count to 100 by ones and by tens.
Count forward beginning from a given number within the known sequence (instead of having to begin at 1).
Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects).
Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect counting to cardinality.
When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object.
