Currency Conversions - Foreign Money - Proportions Worksheet

Are your students bored to tears with state assessments, math drills and dull text books? Are you bored to tears teaching the same proportion lesson over and over again just to hear them say "When are we ever going to use this?!" I created this lesson/worksheet to integrate a real life skill.

I love to travel and thought this would be a great way to relate it to math. While this assignment meets typical state and local standards for "applying ratios and proportions to real life problems" it also allows for interesting class discussions about foreign travel, differences in economies around the world and also allows you to throw in mini tolerance lessons of other cultures. This is not often an easy task when you are drilling math problems over and over again.

**Teaching Tip** - If you have any foreign currencies to bring in for day it really enhances the experience. You can also ask your students to bring in money just make sure they keep it separated in a different bag or box. Make sure you know exactly what you have so none of it goes missing.

I have included a list of exchange rates that your students can use as reference. They can easily be found online at sites like www.xe.com or www.x-rates.com. Foreign exchange rates fluctuate on a daily basis so you might want to print an updated list of currency exchanges yourself. Keep in mind that it might alter the answers given on the key.
