This .zip file contains materials for middle school science lessons on Charles Darwin, evolution, the Voyage of the Beagle, the Galapagos Islands, and finches and hummingbirds, as part of a unit on biomes and evolution. The unit was designed for 6th graders in NYC.

-SMARTboard .notebook lesson presentation introducing Charles Darwin and the Voyage of the Beagle (6 slides).

-SMARTboard .notebook lesson presentation on the Galapagos Islands and finches, including a lab experiment (13 slides).

-SMARTboard .notebook lesson presentation reviewing the lab experiment and making connections between the finches and the idea of evolution (8 slides).

-Lab experiment worksheet and descriptions (5 pages).
-3 homework assignments including an article introducing Darwin, that could be used in conjunction with the introductory lesson.


Presentations serve as lesson plans that guide the teacher through the entire lesson. Presentations include links to related YouTube videos to increase student engagement (I can help you use YouTube videos in your class, even if your network blocks such sites, just ask).
