All the cards within a deck have same digits in order to push students to think through place value of each digit (not just the numeral). For example 64.6 is in the same deck as 60.46, 640.6, and 6.046. This prevents students from using other coping strategies to find a match.
For example, a set might include:
- 64.6 (standard form)
- sixty-four and six tenths (word form)
- 6 tens 4 ones and 6 tenths (unit form)
- 60 + 4 + 0.6 (expanded from A)
- (6 x 10) + (4 x 1) + (6 x 1/10) (expanded form B)
