What educators are saying

This was a great resource for teaching and practicing multisyllabic words with students who are struggling readers. It was very organized, and the plan was easy to follow and implement. I love anything by Jennifer Findley!
My second graders needed practice decoding multisyllabic words. The lessons are very detailed and well thought out. I used them during my small group instruction with my middle and high groups. Some of the passages were a little bit challenging, but it was productive struggle! Thank you!

    Description

Are you teaching your students to decode multisyllabic words using syllable types and want to make that instruction authentic and transferable? These small group reading lessons for specific syllable types in multisyllabic words are just what you need.

Why Use Decodable Syllable Type Passages?

In order for phonics instructions to be effective, students need to be able to see the connection between the phonic skills and patterns they are learning/have learned and the texts that they are reading.

Students also need to be able to transfer the skills that they're learning in isolation with words to connected texts.

These passages and scripted lessons will help you do that!

About the Syllable Type Decodable Passages:

The passages were carefully written to provide lots of opportunities for students to read the specific focus syllable type (both in single syllable and multisyllabic words).

The other words used in the story are either high frequency words or other decodable words that students should be able to read successfully. Warning: The passages can be a bit silly!

The passages will have the students reading the focus syllable types multiple times and seeing the connection between what they are learning and the stories they are reading.

The lessons and activities included in this resource are printable only!

About the Syllable Type Scripted (But Flexible) Lessons:
