What educators are saying

This was a really cute way to go over the distributive property of multiplication and helped those students who were still struggling with the concept.
I loved using this activity so the students could visualize the steps of using the distributive property. It was a great resource.

    Description

Help your students understand how to apply the DISTRIBUTIVE PROPERTY OF MULTIPLICATION with these 44 MATH TASK CARDS and more than 60-page MATH UNIT. This resource is perfect for students who are struggling to understand and apply the DISTRIBUTIVE PROPERTY. It begins with concrete (manipulatives) activities, progresses to the representational stage (drawing pictures of the manipulatives previously used), and ends with the abstract (using only numbers and mathematical symbols).

With Dr. D, the distributive doctor, students will pretend they are surgeons “breaking apart” arrays. They will begin to “see” the distributive property of multiplication and why 3x6 is equal to (3x2)+(3x4) or equal to 3 x (2+4). Use this math unit to teach/practice the fundamental skill or prep for test day!

They loved the scalpel "Popsicle stick" and doing surgery on the array. Most of all...they understand the distributive property. I can't wait to utilize all of the features! Very creative! There's a lot in this package for the price! Awesome purchase!!” — Gina S.

"This is a great buy for starting OR reviewing the distributive property. My kids loved this and I really believe that this packet is a big reason that all my kids improved from the pre-test to the post-test! I loved it, my EA loved it, my math coach loved it, and most importantly my kids loved it!” — Jill M.

    Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide. Examples: If 6 × 4 = 24 is known, then 4 × 6 = 24 is also known. (Commutative property of multiplication.) 3 × 5 × 2 can be found by 3 × 5 = 15, then 15 × 2 = 30, or by 5 × 2 = 10, then 3 × 10 = 30. (Associative property of multiplication.) Knowing that 8 × 5 = 40 and 8 × 2 = 16, one can find 8 × 7 as 8 × (5 + 2) = (8 × 5) + (8 × 2) = 40 + 16 = 56. (Distributive property.)
