Description

One of our SC SS Standards for the 5th grade addresses how women's roles changed during the Cold War era between the 50s to the 80s. I could not find many resources to support my teaching of this standard, so I attempted to create my own DBQ! I use the "The DBQ Project"'s "Mini-Q's in American History," Volume 2, and this resource does a phenomenal job of meeting our SS standards, as well as promoting common core reading and writing standards. So, I used their format to create my own DBQ answering the question, "Why did women's roles change from the 50s to the 80s?"

This resource includes the following:
-a PDF of the entire DBQ, from the introduction, to the "hook," to the documents with comprehension questions, and a teacher key. This can be photocopied for students or projected on a screen for class viewing.
-a PDF of a background essay
-a PDF of a prewriting map to help the students plan an essay
-a PDF of a graphic organizer that will help students plan an essay, based on a graphic organizer shared with me from a fellow teacher

This may be a bit challenging for younger students; I used it with my GT 5th graders.
