Description

This lesson plan will help introduce students to the idea of buoyancy and density through a read aloud and a fun hands on experiment.

Description: This lesson is on density and its impact on an objects buoyancy. Specifically, that density (not simply size) impacts whether an object will float or not. The students will work as class and in groups to determine which objects will float and which will not recording their answers and creating a graph along the way. All resulting in the students developing the conclusion that an objects density determines its buoyancy. While completing the experiment students will fill in a lab write-up sheet that is structured just like a "real" lab write-up that the older students do, but requires little writing, so it is perfect for the emergent reader/writers!
