Don't Eat Me! Persuasive Writing Activity for Thanksgiving

This easy peasy Thanksgiving Writing / Turkey Writing Activity will make for a gobblin' great bulletin board! Just print out the one-page turkey templates and watch your students creatively persuade their audience what to eat instead of turkey on Thanksgiving! This book companion activity pairs well with Turkey Trouble by Wendi J. Silvano. This is a engaging way to introduce persuasive writing for your young writers!

For Grades Prek, K and 1:
Choose a turkey writing template; there are 3 different writing prompts to choose from for differentiation and writing skill level:

-Trace & complete the sentence stem: "Don't eat me! Eat _______ instead!"
-Complete the sentence stem: "Don't eat me! Eat _______ instead!"

-Trace & complete the sentence stem: "If I was a turkey, _______ ."
-Complete the sentence stem: "If I were a turkey, _______ ."

-Trace & complete the sentence stem: "If I had a pet turkey, _______ ."
-Complete the sentence stem: "If I had a pet turkey, _______ ." (optional girl and boy turkeys)

For Grades 1-3:
-Have your students write a persuasive essay on what other food options there are besides turkey on Thanksgiving. They can write as themselves or pretend they are the turkey writing the essay!
-or-
-After reading the story Turkey Trouble by Wendi J. Silvano, have the students write a letter as the turkey to the Farmer, persuading him to eat something else for Thanksgiving dinner.
