What educators are saying

I used this resource to show my higher ed students how they can incorporate these materials in their own classroom. I also use them to teach my students these concepts and how to use them to teach.
This is a great resource to have at your fingertips; makes my life easier as a teacher to be able to incorporate into my day and to help my students.

Description

This USEFUL TEACHER TOOL is a checklist and tracker of ELL / ESL accommodations to help English Language Learners and English as a Second Language students feel and be successful in your classroom! I have compiled a list of accommodations that I have been able to implement on my own in my general education classroom to help my ELL/ESL students be more successful! Every child is different, so I have included a variety of accommodations to try! This list has been a life-saver in my classroom, year after year! *You may also find this checklist useful if you tutor ELL/ESL students!

The checklist contains columns to record the date the accommodation started, the duration of the accommodation, whether or not the accommodation worked, and a place to take notes. I’ve also included a blank checklist for you to add and keep track of your own accommodations. By using this simple checklist, you are collecting the data you need to help your student(s) feel and be more successful in your classroom! You will also be able to share the data you have collected with parents, ELL/ESL teacher/case manager, and members of your school’s intervention or RTI/MTSS team.

TO USE:

Print off the checklist and write the student’s initials on it. Put the checklist on a clipboard near your desk where it is accessible. Try each accommodation for at least 7-10 days to determine if it works or not. Often times I may be trying 2-3 accommodations simultaneously; such as providing the student with a bilingual dictionary, and allowing the student extra time to complete assignments.

Below is a list of accommodations that you may need to find in advance. Not all accommodations on the list require purchases!!

  • Classroom object labels
  • Graphic organizers
  • Visual daily schedule
  • Bilingual dictionary
  • ELL/ESL curriculum materials

I hope you find this checklist as useful and handy as I do! I seem to add accommodations to this list every year, and when I add more, I will be sure to update this checklist. Feel free to leave me feedback and let me know how these accommodations are working in your classroom!
