Earth Day: Reducing Waste

Developing the knowledge about the environment can change peoples' behaviors. However, there is conflict between the individual and the  individual being a  consumer (Bratt, 1997).   Unfortunately, the idea of protecting the environment is challenged by  negative social norms. Once a norm has become socially accepted or activated people continue to follow that norm (Biel et al. 2006).  For example, in Europe they have developed a curricular economy package to reuse all packaged material (Brissaud et al. 2017).  The goal being to change the norm of using single use plastics.
