Description

Understanding (and teaching) first grade word problems can be challenging! First graders need to be able to read and understand word problems, represent them, write an equation, and solve them. This no prep collection of Earth Day themed word problems based on common core addition and subtraction story structures will help you model for your students how to become successful word problem solvers!

Get excited for first grade math centers with these springtime themed task cards perfect for Earth Day in April! Kids are never too young to start learning how to take care of their homes. Practice solving 2 digit and 1 digit addition (with and without regrouping), 2 digit addition with multiples of ten, and 2 digit subtraction story problems within 100.

This product is designed for first and second graders who are just starting to solve word problems. It uses basic facts with answers below 100 so students can think about what the question is asking them to do in order to solve it. I have included basic addition with 2 digit and 1 digit numbers (ex: 24 + 3), basic addition with 2 digit and 1 digit numbers with regrouping (ex: 47 + 4), 2 digit addition with multiples of ten (ex: 32 + 40), and basic 2 digit subtraction with multiples of ten (ex: 65 - 10) word problems. This packet includes problem types listed in the Common Core for common addition and subtraction situations and are similar to Cognitively Guided Instruction.

Students love task cards! They think they are doing something so much more FUN if it involves standing up or moving around. Opportunities are endless for these task cards! Perfect to put around the room as a read/write the room activity and have your students walk around to solve problems. Your students can also play Scoot using these cards. You can use them in math centers, as can do activities, independent work, use for early finishers or as remediation for reteaching. This is the perfect way to integrate some Earth Day fun into your Math Time!

These task cards are aligned with common core standards and would be a great addition to lesson plans for teacheres wanting to reinforce how to take care of the Earth during math time. These cute no-prep printables are perfect to give your students extra practice solving word problems!
