Description

Hands-on fairy tale STEM challenges that are open-ended and allow for student creativity! Students can complete all 20 STEM activities OR use the choice board and pick their challenge(s). These low prep activities are easy to set up with materials you already have, like paper, recyclables, or building bricks and blocks. Your students will be begging to do more!

What You'll Get

  • 20 Fairy Tale STEM challenges: These can be displayed from the PDF file or from Google Slides, or printed at 4 per page to create task cards. I have also included choice mats that can be kept in a folder or at a STEM center or Makerspace. Encourage students to try and solve the problem at least two ways and then compare results!
  • Various recording options: Choose from a simple page to record the plan, a graphic organizer, or from one of two digital options - Pic Collage or Google Slides (or any digital sharing app like SeeSaw, FlipGrid, etc.).
  • A rubric checklist ✅ is included so students know what is expected of them.
  • At least one task included for each of the following fairy tales:

    • ⭐ Sleeping Beauty ⭐
    • ⭐ The Wonderful Wizard of Oz ⭐

Please read - These are open ended STEM activities. They are meant to be completed with materials you have on hand or that your students feel comfortable with. If you are new to STEM or you need more guided activities, please view STEM Tales Challenges instead, as they are very detailed and walk students through the engineering design process in a very straightforward way.

The zip file includes 4 files:

File with the challenges

File with the printables

File with instructions for using with Google Slides* (cen be downloaded for use with PowerPoint, or downloaded as an image and shared digitally!)

File with instructions for using with Pic Collage

I created these so that students can work independently on STEM. Use for bell work / morning work, early finishers, or for an after school STEM club. You don't need a fancy makerspace to complete these tasks. I recommend hanging on to recyclables and using what you already have, such as paper, tape, and building blocks and math manipulatives. The challenges are primarily building tasks.

If you are looking for more in depth challenges that tie in literacy to STEM, please visit the STEM Tales Jumbo BUNDLE.
