What educators are saying

I used this at the beginning of the year with my 6th graders to review what we learned about figurative language in 5th grade. This was a good resource for my students to use to be able to take notes on.
Doodle sheets/wheels are great for quick assessment or for a good review. Students enjoy the doodle sheets.

Description

Taking figurative language notes is fun and engaging with this doodle wheel!

Use this ELA doodle wheel to introduce or review types of figurative language. Students can keep this graphic organizer in their interactive notebooks as a resource/study tool.

What is an ELA doodle wheel? This wheel is a type of graphic organizer where students can:

  • Take notes inside the wheel
  • Use color, drawing, and doodling to help create memory triggers
  • Complete practice in the pattern around the wheel, and
  • Color the background pattern

Students can keep these graphic organizers in their interactive notebooks all year as a resource/study tool.

  • The wheels are excellent for reviewing concepts as part of your test prep.

The figurative language doodle wheel includes sections for notes and examples for:

1) Simile

2) Metaphor

3) Alliteration

4) Hyperbole

5) Idiom

6) Personification

This easy-prep resource includes:

1) Student copy of Figurative Language Wheel:

  • Includes notes sections for each of the types listed above.
  • Includes 12 practice sentences in the pattern around the circle, for students to identify the types of figurative language.
  • Includes coloring: students color the type according to the color code given on the wheel (there’s a color label in each section of the wheel)
  • Provides a chance for creativity: students color the rest of the background pattern as they choose, as well as the headings and doodle arrows.

2) Teacher version of Figurative Language Wheel:

  • Includes suggested definitions and examples in each section, as well as a little extra room for things you might want to add.
  • Could be given to students who are absent or need notes to be completed for them.

3) Sample Wheel:

  • Includes the completed notes
  • Shows the color key

4) An editable PPT page that is a blank wheel with background, so you can add text to make your own wheels, if you’d like (for classroom use only - not commercial use).
