I am beyond THRILLED today to share with you a brand new First Grade Math Curriculum that is designed to make math FUN, hands-on and engaging for First Grade students! If you are looking to get away from the boring box curriculum or even just supplement your current math curriculum, THIS is the Kindergarten Math curriculum for you! You can use the units as a whole math curriculum or as a supplement to any classroom or homeschool math instruction. They can be seamlessly implemented into any math curriculum!

How are the Units Covered?

Each unit will offer two components to help make the math units

meaningful and engaging for whole group, small group or individual lessons. The First Grade Math Units can be a supplemental resource for current math curriculum, or it can be used as a whole math curriculum. The curriculum is designed to give the teacher flexibility and freedom to rearrange the units to fit the needs of his/her students. Since there are so many practice pages and centers in each unit, the teacher can use many of the pages as a spiral review as the year progresses.

*Center 1: Building 2D Shapes - Build shapes using popsicles and playdoh, or marshmallows and toothpicks.

*Center 2: Build 3D Shapes- Build shapes using popsicles and playdoh, or marshmallows and toothpicks.

*Center 3: Composing Hexagons- Fill in the hexagons with different shapes. See how many different ways you can make a hexagon.

*Center 4: Shapes: True or False?- Read the statement and decide if it is true or false.

*Center 5: Shape Puzzles: Complete the shape puzzles by matching the picture, name and facts.

*Center 6: Building 2D and 3D Shapes- Use the materials to build the shape. Record the name and decide if it is a 2-D or a 3-D shape.

*Center 7: Find the Shape- Read the question and find the shape that matches.

*Center 8: Composing Shapes- Read the task card and make a new shape using the shapes listed.

*Center 9: Identifying 3D Shapes- On the recording sheet, mark the names of the shapes that make up each picture.

*Center 10: Tasty Shape Pizza and Honey Hive- Spin the spinner. Use pattern blocks to cover the pizza or the hive. Keep spinning and playing until the pizza is filled.

*Center 11:Place the Pattern Blocks (with lines): Use the correct pattern blocks to fill the picture.

*Center 12: Place the Pattern Blocks (number of shapes)- Use the same number of pattern blocks given at the bottom of the page to fill the picture.

*Center 13: Place the Pattern Blocks (without lines or number of shapes)- Use any pattern blocks that will fit to fill the picture.

*Center 14: Which Shape Am I?- Read the clues and find the shape that matches. Record the name of the shape on the recording sheet.

*Center 15: Composing New Shapes- Read the task card. Color the new shapes that you have made.

*Center 16: Shapes 2D or 3D?- Look at the shape and decide if it is 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional. Record your answers on the recording sheet.

*Center 17: 3D Shapes: Spin and Cover- Spin the spinner. Cover a 3D shape to match.

*Center 18: Draw and Color a Fraction: Read the task card. Draw the shape and color the fraction on the recording sheet.

*Center 19: Fractions: Make a Match- Match a fraction with the picture.

*Center 20: Parts of a Fraction- Read the question. Write the fraction on the recording sheet.

*Center 21: Pizza Fraction- Spin the spinner. Cover a pizza fraction (circles and rectangles) that matches your spin.

*Center 22: Fractions: True or False?-Look at the picture and fraction and decide if it is true or false. Record your answers on the recording sheet.

How to Teach the Units

The grade level standards for each practice page and center are clearly indicated on the First Grade Math Standard Sheet. There is no guessing as to what standard is being covered. The best part about these units is that you KNOW for sure that ALL the standards are being covered.
