What educators are saying

This is a great resource to use throughout the school year to make sure I am covering all the writing standards and an easy way to assess students. Thanks!
This was perfect for my writing interventions. This made it easy to group my students for small groups. Thanks so much for the resource!

Description

Formally tracking data and progress in writing is not an easy task! Few resources are available to help track student progress with writing standards. This writing assessment kit is just the ticket for keeping data on writing proficiency and growth toward first grade Common Core writing standards!

Kit includes pre-assessment, post-assessment, student progress tracker and class data tracker pages for each of the following Common Core writing types:

Sentences: RF.1.1a, L.1.1j, L.1.2b

Narrative: W.1.3

Opinion: W.1.1

Informative/Explanatory: W.1.2 (two options: one text-based and one how-to prompt)

Each assessment includes a rubric with areas for students to mark their own self-assessment and for teachers to score the rubric.

The assessments are designed to be used in an "on-demand" fashion in which students are given a prompt and asked to write without guidance and assistance. Pieces are then collected and scored using a rubric (provided). Teachers enter pre-assessment data on the data tracking sheets (per student and for the entire class). After examining pre-assessment results, teachers plan instruction and see which writing targets need the most focused instruction. After administering the post-assessment, teachers will be able to compare scores and track growth as well as determine which students have not mastered the writing skills and now require interventions.

Perfect for principals and administrators looking for a system to track the successful implementation of their writing programs grade-wide!
