Description

**UPDATED NEW STAAR QUESTION TYPES SUMMER 2023**

This is part of what we is a year long focused poetry mega unit.

We hope you and your students enjoy this unit as much as we enjoyed shaping it. This product was created because we realized there was not a focused poetry unit out there that concentrated on the STAAR style questions that our students face. Although this unit was created based on the STAAR, it is great for students preparing for any standardized test.

Each poem is designed to be used as a 5-10 minute mini focused lesson plan over 5 days. Each day is outlined to analysis key points on the teacher page. It is best to ask students what they notice about the poem coinciding with that day’s focus point. Then guide them to ensure you cover each of the main points. The examples listed are some, but not necessarily all of the things students could notice. Ideally, you would spend 4 days discussing the poem, then the 5th day the students will take a short assessments to show comprehension. However, lessons can be completed in less than a week if you are in a crunch.

***The poems in the other grade level focused poetry units are the same, but the rigor of the questions have been changed based on the grade level.***
