What educators are saying

I love this bundle. It's very engaging with experiments, as well as worksheets and group to reinforce the standards on a level the children and understand, comprehend, and retain.
I love the vocabulary and visual posters. The mini book is very engaging and a great resource to send home with students so they can share what they are learning in class.

Description

When I first started teaching Kindergarten, I was struggling to find activities that would help my students understand Force & Motion. Been there, too? It's a difficult concept for little learners to grasp!

That's why I created this NGSS science bundle of nine activities - to make teaching this new topic stress-free for you (and me!) and mega-engaging for our kiddos!

How can you use these 9 activities?

✏️At a Center

✏️As Homework

✏️As Independent Work

✏️During Whole Group Time

✏️As Review

✏️During Science Investigation Time

Kindergarten Science Standards:

K-PS2-1, K-PS2-2

What are the activities included?

1. Force and Motion” Emergent Reader (9 page book)

Have your students practice reading the words "push" and "pull" while they practice the sight words "I" and "can." They also will discover what motion each action will cause! Nine pages, doubled on each page for easy printing, copying, stapling, and cutting.

2. Poster Vocabulary Set for the classroom

Reinforce your Force and Motion unit with these bright, colorful, & easy to understand posters for the following words: force, push, pull, motion, position, gravity.

3. Pocket Chart Vocabulary Words Set

Cards with a vocabulary word and corresponding picture for your pocket chart.

4. Push, Pull or Both? Cut/Paste Independent Assessment

Have your students cut out pictures and sort them into the following categories: push, pull, or both

5. Push, Pull, or Both? Colorful Center Activity

Students will place pre-cut out objects and sort them into the following categories: push, pull, or both. Print on card stock and laminate for added durability.

6. Force and Motion Folding Miniature Booklet

Make this foldable for your students, or guide them through it so they can take home a pocket book reminding them of the day's lesson on force and motion. Each page simply states push or pull and has a corresponding picture that prompts students to tell what happens when the item is pushed or pulled.

7. Bowling Experiment and Activities

“Can you move a ball without touching it yourself?” This investigation includes a pocket chart set, graphing, tally marking, counting, experimenting, & reflecting.

8. Motion Tracing Lines Activity for practice or as a writing Assessment

Students will practice controlling their pencil and writing as they trace the silly, fun paths that various balls take.

9. Where did the bugs go? Cut/Paste Activity Reader on Positional Words

This adorable 12-paged Bug themed emergent reader will keep students on task as they read the sentences in the book to determine which bug belongs on that page! Each page incorporates a positional word. Positional words incorporated are: in, beside, below, in front of, above, behind, between, on top of, next to, and under.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
NGSSK-PS2-2
Analyze data to determine if a design solution works as intended to change the speed or direction of an object with a push or a pull. Examples of problems requiring a solution could include having a marble or other object move a certain distance, follow a particular path, and knock down other objects. Examples of solutions could include tools such as a ramp to increase the speed of the object and a structure that would cause an object such as a marble or ball to turn. Assessment does not include friction as a mechanism for change in speed.
NGSSK-PS2-1
Plan and conduct an investigation to compare the effects of different strengths or different directions of pushes and pulls on the motion of an object. Examples of pushes or pulls could include a string attached to an object being pulled, a person pushing an object, a person stopping a rolling ball, and two objects colliding and pushing on each other. Assessment is limited to different relative strengths or different directions, but not both at the same time. Assessment does not include non-contact pushes or pulls such as those produced by magnets.
